Local H
So I managed to track down something to do last night, and it was incredibly bad ass. Greg and I went and saw Local H tear down the Key Club. It was an amazing, amazing show. The first opening band, Campground Effect was not awful, but not good enough to warrant buying one of their CDs for only a fiver. The next two bands, Nude and Short and Sweet sucked so bad that I stood outside in the freezing cold wearing mostly nothing just to get away from their terrible, terrible singers. Talk about two bands being taken down by two of the worst singers I’ve ever heard.
Local H was fucking awesome. I love the epic sound Scott Lucas manages to create on the records despite being just a two person band, him on guitars and Brian St. Clair on drums. I wasn’t really sure if it would translate so well without usage of samplers or something, but Lucas doesn’t disappoint. He manages to create all the awesome soundscapes with his battery of guitars (all equipped with two outputs) that he’s not afraid to abuse.
If you ever have a chance to see Local H, you should, because Scott Lucas has a rock and roll stage prescence that you don’t see anywhere anymore. That guy knows what he’s doing and he does it well, so very well.
They even played their heavy rendition of Toxic, which is pretty much the entire reason I went to the show.
I also expanded my shirt collection with this oddly fitting number for myself. Too bad it’s “dumb jock blue” but what can you do?
And not only did I get the signature of Scott Lucas on my ticket, but also of the legendary P.J. Soles. If that isn’t fucking awesome, I don’t know what is.
Local H are the fucking shit. Much love for chicago bands
