A Note to Webmasters

1. If I open up a webpage and see a loading screen, I will immediately close it. When I see a flash loading bar, generally I will find that the site includes almost all of the complaints labled below.

2. If the text on your site is so small that I can’t read it in 1600×1200, (I’m looking at you, 8px silkscreen users), then I will close your site without even trying.

3. If I look at your site and cannot determine, in about half a second, exactly what the name of your site/product is, and what it might be about/for, then I am going to close your site.

4. If a there is a nifty animation when I click on a menu item and new panes of text slide, zip, zoom, or otherwise appear out of thin air, I will close your site.

5. If there is not at least five pixels of padding between any container border and the text inside of it, I will close your site.

6. If it takes me more than a split second to identify readable text on your site, I will close your site.

7. If your site contains the word “beta” in superscript next to your logo, I will undoubtedly hang around for a few minutes and check your site out.
