New Computer
I’ve been pre-occupied. I got a new computer, graciously bankrolled by my father.
Kind of a dream come true in all honesty.
Yes, the power supply is sitting on a box outside of the case. The case is too tall for the power supply cables to reach the motherboard, and so while I’m waiting for extensions to arrive in the mail (since Fry’s is, well, I guess they have problems with staying well stocked with anything) I’m just running the system like that.
For those who want to know what all it is…
SilverStone case, Silver not Black.
ASUS A8N-SLI Delux
AMD 64 X2 4800+
2×1gb stick RAM
EVGA GeForce7800GTX
2×200gb SATA Maxtor HD (+ existing 250gb IDE Maxtor)
Logitech G15 Keyboard
Creative Fatal1ty Mouse
Samsung 970p 19” LCD
...Already owned a Audigy2ZS and saw no reason to get a newer card due to inability to run KX drivers on new ones.
And I guess that’s it.
It took a few hours to get used to the LCD. I was used to my 21inch Trinitron that had the worst black levels in the world, so when I loaded up the monitor and saw things that i thought were supposed to be black or really dark as actually being really bright, my mind recoiled in horror. Now I love it. This is a fucking awesome monitor. Screen spins, rises, lowers, tilts, rotates, really cool.
The G15 keyboard is really nice, didn’t really plan on getting a keyboard or mouse, but when I saw that the G15 has normal keys as opposed to the retarded shit Logitech likes to put all over their current boards, I was highly impressed. You can see in the shot that it’s displaying what is playing in iTunes. It also displays real time CPU and RAM usage data (while playing games even) and the volume level (while playing games even). No more shitty Logitech OSD software fucking up shit. The 18 G keys (with 3 modifiers making for 54 configurable keys) are cool, allowing you to record macros for each key (game unique as well) in real time, in game. Should be useful as I play more. Has a nifty “game mode” switch that disables the Windows key and something else that can knock you out of the game if accidently pressed.
The Fatal1ty mouse is as good as the preview I read a long time ago. I didn’t think it would be useful to be able to switch out weights and/or switch the sensitivity on the fly… but it really is. For PC use the lightest (non-existent) weight is great, and for gaming the heaviest weight is nice. Sensitivity helps while selecting text in general use, also helps in fast paced FPS when you need to spin around really quick. It’s also very comfortable despite being fatter than it is long.
No stupid LEDs or neon lights in my case. Very happy about that. Does have a transparent window on the side, you can oogle the wind tunnel and the heat pipes on the X2 then.
YOU’RE SUCH A DAMN FAG.
give me your old hardware.
