Dearly Devoted Dexter

(Jeff Lindsay) I heard that the second Dexter novel was better than the first and in some ways Dearly Devoted Dexter is better than Darkly Dreaming Dexter, but in others, not so much. A lot of the things that happen in Dexter’s “fake life” in this book are amazing and made me put the book down so I could take a few moments to breathe through the shock and wonder. But the underlying storyline and conclusion of it is so unsettling and uncomfortable that I came away from the book feeling a little troubled.

The fact that those things happened to a main character (especially a primary character in the series) makes me feel a little sick and I’m still not sure how I feel about Dexter’s nonchalant reaction to them. It’s painful to witness great men fall, even when it’s at the benefit of our protagonist.
