Two Things
1.) I turned off the Twitter digest. Mainly because it’s out of sync with how my days run. Not only does it post according to UTC (I think), which is not what my days run on, but even if it did post in sync with PST, it still wouldn’t match up with my days. If I could set it to post all the twitters from 12pm to 4am as one day, then it would match up. But, no, it can’t do that. So, fuck it.
2.) This one will be long, so I am starting a new paragraph already. Watch.
I’ve always been big on reliability and punctuality. It’s a pet peeve of mine, really, when someone doesn’t follow up on something they’ve agreed to, or whatever. Unfortunately, due to my rapidly expanding social circle, I am slowly turning into someone unreliable, and it saddens me. Almost all of the time it is outside of my control, but on occasion I catch myself thinking, “Well, they can wait a bit…”
I picked up a trick from Matt. When someone calls you saying, “Where you are, man? It’s been so-and-so minutes,” the best response is, “I’m on my way right now,” no matter where you are. If you haven’t even left yet, you still say, “I’m on my way right now, I’m five minutes away,” even if you’re fifteen minutes away and not even ready to leave. It quickly disarms people and lets you get off the phone, and leaves the person waiting somewhat patiently at least for another couple of minutes. I’ve seen Matt do this to friends, family, co-workers, clients, everyone. It’s not a bad trick, really, but it is a trick and it makes me feel somewhat dirty.
Sometimes it’s unavoidable. You have priorities, everyone in your head is labeled based on their importance to you and your perceived importance of what they need from you. People get preempted for others. People who have already been waiting for you for some time end up tossed aside while you handle something more important. It’s lousy, but it happens. I wish their were more of me so I could handle it all and leave no one wanting. But, unfortunately, there is only one Brad and he can only stretch so thin.
So, if you’re reading this, and you’re waiting on me: I’m sorry, but I can’t help it.
the riches finale made me think of item two. you’ll see.
