Polyphonic Spree in LA Writeup
This is a just a quote of my post on The Polyphonic Spree Forum about my experience at the Polyphonic Spree show last night. A lot of this will not make sense to anyone.
This show was really similar to the Fonda show September. The Best Part was played last year, along with La La, which I’m glad since both those songs made absolutely no appearance at the first two Spree shows I went to. The Piano Duel, which was incredible, was much better than the one in September IIRC. Watching Tim almost start to cry at the beginning of the show (speaking of Ellis [sic]) and then almost start crying at the end of the show was almost too much to bear. The fact that the encore was in the white robes (green/red last year) and lasted for eighty kajillion minutes was AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING. Best show I’ve been to!
Time saying “I’ll sonic your bloom, don’t even get me started, you won’t hit those doors before there’s daylight,” or something akin to that was hilarious and excitingly frightening. I was starting to feel ill already (see below) so it wouldn’t have been a good idea. Unlike most people I do not shout out Sonic Bloom every five minutes at a Spree show, I have no romance with that song. I would have rather heard two-thousand places. Or Suitcase Calling. Or…
My two friends (if anyone saw me, that cute brunette in front of me and the guy in front of her were my converts) were hyped, hyped, hyped over the show. Since I’ve seen the Spree four times now, I have to say that the feeling of bliss is slightly wearing off for me, especially now that the primary set is mostly Fragile Army songs which don’t contain the same amount of, I dunno, joy for me as they TWH songs do. I was a little worried my two friends would not be as impressed as I hyped them up to be. They expected something akin to the best thing they’ve ever seen in their entire lives and all sorts of other good stuff.
I’m happy to report that when we left the show they felt as if they had never experienced anything better in their whole lives. The guy, because he’s 21, is coming to the San Diego show with me. Unfortunately, because she’s just barely turning 20 in August, she can’t go. Sad panda.
Unfortunately… I guess the duration and loudness and excitement of the show got to me. I was unable to drive my friends and I home, one of my friends had to drive my car, and I ended up letting him keep it so he could drive my friends home. They dropped me off at home and I promptly went inside and puked my guts out due to this insane migraine. The Polyphonic Spree: So Awesome You Will Puke.
Kinda sad we didn’t get to go to the after party, I tried to steal a hug from Tim but maybe San Diego will be better for that, if any of you guys can get me and my buddies into any sort of after party in San Diego, please let me know. My sickness would have ruined the LA after party anyway.
I bought two shirts, the four button set, and a sweatband which the girl is wearing. I think at the SD show I’ll buy a program (what to do with it, tho?) or maybe a poster, and just drop some money into the Ellis buckets.
This was also the first Spree show I’ve been to (out of four) that I did not get said Hello to by any forum members or anything. Though, I ran into a friend of a friend of a friend, which was cool. Mighta jumped on her a few times on accident. Whoops!
Maybe I’ll see you guys (magellan, sic, who I’m pretty sure I met at the September show, I’m looking at you… or maybe that was devdog, I don’t even remember anymore) at the San Diego show!
