My wife dragged me to see Sense and Sensibility (2026), and I really liked it a lot. I don't believe I've seen another version, or if I had, I don't remember it, and I certainly haven't read the book. So, as a complete outsider, I have to say, I really liked it a lot!

It was really nice to look at, all the performances were really great, the story was sweet and romantic, and it was pretty funny here and there. The tears did not fall, but it was only due to my inner strength. (For the record, it was the first resolution that touched me; I was glad to see the second one, but it did not move me as much.)

I read through some of the user reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, and I get the gist that this version is rubs people the wrong way because it's not particularly historically accurate, especially during the dances, or alternately, they are annoyed at how dirty and filthy everyone seems to be all of the time.

During one of the first dance scenes, I turned to my wife and compared it to A Knight's Tale, and in retrospect, I think both of the above reasons contribute well to the comparison. It's more like a dream version of the past, a bit scrambled, and lived-in, not pristine. I really like A Knight's Tale, so to me this comparison is a compliment. Gosh, if only A Knight's Tale looked like this Sense and Sensibility. I guess I can't overstate how nice this movie was to look at!
